Double jump.tokyo and Square Enix have announced that they are collaborating to develop some kind of content using blockchain technology. Details on the deal and content are sparse, but we do know it will eventually lead to the system development of NFT digital stickers using the Million Arthur IP, a Square Enix franchise, set to release later this summer.
Million Arthur is a card battle game franchise and the one of the more recent IPs in Square Enix’s repertoire standing alongside Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.
Who is Double jump.tokyo?
Double jump.tokyo was established in April 2018 dedicated to develop games and apps using blockchain technology as well as collaborating with other companies on their blockchain games. Their most successful game is “My Crypto Heroes”, an Ethereum based blockchain game, which is ranked as the world’s number one blockchain game in terms of daily active users.

As of this writing, My Crypto Heroes has earned a total of 26,033 ETH.
Square Enix has been interested in blockchain technology for a few years now; in fact, in March 2020 the company obtained some SAND utility tokens and SAFE (simple agreement for future equity) securities from Animoca Brands. Animoca Brands is another blockchain gaming developer best known for blockchain game CryptoKitties, a game where people have spend over $1 million buying the cats.
Square Enix NFT digital sticker business manager Keisuke Hata said in a statement:
We are pleased to start the development of NFT digital assets services using our IP and hope to contribute to the creation of new value and the future of digital assets from this partnership.
Catching the Wave
CEO of Double jump.Tokyo Nobuhiro Ueno released a statement as well saying:
In the blockchain field, which is now attracting a lot of attention from major global companies, NFTs are the most popular now… I am convinced that adding innovation elements such as NFTs to Japanese IPs will contribute to further value expansion.
NFTs have been around for a few years now, but saw a massive spike in popularity in recent months as seen when digital artist Beeple sold an NFT of his work for $69 million (Nice). All these new innovations could change the gaming landscape as we know it.
What Can We Expect
Apart from the vague release window, there aren’t any other details concerning the Million Arthur RFT game. If past crypto games and RFT sales are anything to go by, then expect players to purchase and own unique game characters, items, and trading cards.
Admiteddly, Double jump.Tokyo’s games a little light on gameplay and graphical polish, but combining their technological expertise with Square Enix’s IP and budget, I’m confident the game will come out great.
As for my opinion, Square Enix collaborating with a new studio to make an innovating new game sounds great. I’m a big fan of Square Enix games, although I’m not a fan of mobile games. A lot of Japanese mobile game utilize gatcha mechanics that I’m typically not a fan of, but I’ll keep an open mind.
