What is Graph?
The Graph is an open-source application that collects, processes, and stores data from different blockchain applications to make data retrieval easier.
The Graph’s goal, which began on the Ethereum network, is to assist developers in using related data to improve the performance of their decentralized applications (dapp).
The Graph collects and analyzes blockchain data before storing it in different indices known as Subgraphs, enabling any program to question its protocol and obtain an immediate answer.
GraphQL, a commonly used language developed by Facebook to collect data for a user’s news feed, is used by dapps to ask queries.
How Does the Graph Work?
The Graph (GRT) is a blockchain indexing protocol that is decentralized and open-source. Subgraphs are APIs that developers may create and publish to execute GraphQL queries. Later on, we’ll go into the benefits of GraphQL.
The app allows you to easily scan for Ethereum data using basic queries. This solves a dilemma that many other blockchain indexing sites are experiencing.
Properties including finality, chain reorganization, and question fulfillment protections are difficult for blockchain implementations to stick to. This, among other issues, are addressed by the Graph.
Subgraphs are used to break up long sentences into smaller parts. The Graph is a database of blockchain data that can be accessed through the GraphQL API. The team claims that in the future it would be fully decentralized. The index would be maintained by further nodes.
What is the History of The Graph?
Yaniv Tal, Jannis Pohlmann, and Brandon Ramirez founded The Graph in 2018, after previously working together on many startups focusing on developing developer software.
Since 2019, The Graph has received a total of $19.5 million in token purchases, including $10 million from its public offering in October 2020. During this period, investors such as Coinbase Ventures, Digital Currency Group, and Multicoin Capital have purchased approximately 21% of the initial token supply of 10 billion GRT.
How Do I Hold the Graph?
GRT is an ERC20 token. You can hold it on any common Ethereum wallet, such as Metamask or MyEtherWallet.
