Notes on the Collection
The collection is called Marilyn Monroe Metamorphosis and made available from the Marilyn Monroe Estate, essentially from the entity called Authentic Brands Group (ABG). ABG is a brand management company that has the majority stake in IP rights pertaining to Marilyn Monroe and her legacy.
“We are ecstatic about partnering with the Marilyn Monroe Estate on MARILYN MONROE METAMORPHOSIS,” said Nick Rose, Founder and CEO at Ethernity Chain. “Ethernity is honored to be the first platform to continue Marilyn’s legacy from the era of Pop Art to the era of NFTs and the blockchain. There could not be a more iconic first female celebrity to drop on Ethernity.”
Marilyn’s Impact on Contemporary Art
Monroe died in 1962 when she was 36 years old. Gone too soon, Marilyn Monroe and her iconic persona are immortalized and preserved in these NFTs.
These works celebrate her journey from Norma Jeane to an actress, model, and singer who paved her own way and rose to new heights of fame.
During the ’50s and ’60s, she was a blonde bombshell sex symbol. Her gorgeous image has inspired all manner of contemporary art pieces.
Andy Warhol produced numerous print portraits of her. Forever Marilyn is a controversial, 25-foot-tall statue, made from aluminum and stainless steel, by John Seward Johnson II and is situated in Palm Springs, California.
The statue portrays Marilyn, clad in her signature white cocktail dress, from a well-known scene in the 1955 film, The Seven Year Itch.
Today, Marilyn Monroe and her story signify so much more. While she was a beautiful Hollywood celebrity, she was also a dimensional, complex woman with afflictions and vices like the rest of us, who wanted so much from life. She was a glamorous, yet go-getter, individual.
It’s only right that her likeness should inspire a bespoke NFT collection in the expanding, evolving world of digital art. For additional background on NFTs and what they are, take a look at this piece.
