Few players trust a basketball floor more than Stephen Curry. This is why you have to give him the benefit of the doubt when the star of Golden State Warriors chooses to spend $180,000 dollars on digital artwork.
The Warriors legend has made a big investment in Bored Ape Yacht Club in a total of 55 Ethereum, or around $180K, according to Tim Copeland of The Block. Curry also changed his Twitter profile photo to the monkey he had purchased to make a little of his new six-digit acquisition. Stephen Curry’s NFT ape is one of the 10,000 NFTs in the BAYC collection.
Curry’s ape has specific unique features as an NFT. Only 1% of the apes wear tweed, 3% have zombie-eyes and 5% have blue fur. After Curry had purchased the NFT ape, 58 additional NFTs have been given to him, including one set of scissors, a rock and his Bored Ape NFT hand-drawn.
BAYC, over the course of one day earned $28.3 million in sales. The Ethereum-based project has built up revenues by $320 million since its inception four months ago, making it the sixth most popular NFT initiative. Some of the apes will be auctioned off by Sotheby on September 2.

The Bored Ape Yacht Club consists of distinct NFTs – unique digital collectors residing on the Ethereum blockchain. Your Bored Ape doubles as your Yacht Club membership card, giving you access to membership privileges exclusively, including access to the collaborative graffiti board THE BATHROOM first. Future regions and benefits may be unlocked by activating the roadmap. In addition, BAYC raised over $90 million in a unique art drop.
NFT project Bored Ape Yacht Club collected $96 million for 10,000 Mutant Apes in a one-hour public auction on Saturday night and raised an additional 10,000 vials of mutant serum which allowed current Ethereum-based NFT holders to mint new apes free of charge.
NFTs Rise Up
Bored Ape Yacht Club was initially launched in April 2021 and had 10,000 procedurally generated NFTs. Each comes with distinct features – for example, some wear tweed suits, others smoke. BAYC is not the only notable NFT collection. Another 10,000-strong NFT Avatar collection, CryptoPunks, has produced well over 1 billion dollars in sales, the most popular in its class.
The difference between BAYC and CryptoPunks is that CryptoPunks are significantly more costly. Though, there have been many who have recently called the NFT boom a bubble. But if you sit on a lot of ETH and are willing to spend, then you can also get a unique piece of art like the Warriors star.
